So, my client first clued me into the incredible Chiayi night market food scene at Wenhua Road. They were super clear. You haven’t truly experienced Chiayi without trying their famous Sandpot Fish Head. My first thought? “Just a big stew, probably.” Boy, was I wrong! It was an absolute game-changer.

There’s this crazy popular joint on Wenhua Road called “Fountain Turkey Rice.” We totally skipped it, though. I’m usually a skeptic. Turkey meat can be so dry, you know? How amazing could it really be? Maybe next time I’ll challenge my own assumptions!

Okay, but listen up! There’s this stall called “Huang Mao Ya Tou” (that’s “Yellow-Haired Girl”) on Wenhua Road. They serve Dongshan Duck Head. And holy moly, it crushed the Ningxia Night Market version! I’m not even kidding. This might be the best Dongshan Duck Head in all of Taiwan. Seriously, you HAVE to try it!

My client also hooked me up with some “Tu Mango Tiao”—that’s green mango strips—from a local fruit stall. They came pre-sliced, like perfect little sticks. You dip them in this incredible plum powder. Oh my gosh, they were so tangy and just delicious! I searched for them everywhere after that trip. No luck at other night markets. But seriously, guess what? Lately, I’ve found them at Hema, a grocery chain. It’s the exact taste I remembered from Chiayi! Total blast from the past!
